The Heart of Philippians 3-10-11

Hey, beautiful souls! Welcome back to Creative Jesus Girl, where we’re currently walking through Lent with hearts wide open to Jesus. This season, we’re all about reflection, surrender, and chasing after Him—and today, we’re diving into the heart of Philippians 3-10-11. These verses feel like a Lenten love letter, guiding us straight to Christ’s heart. So grab a cup of coffee or tea, cozy up, and explore this treasure together.

Let’s read Philippians 3:10-11 together;

I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. (NIV)

Oh, friends, doesn’t that fit Lent perfectly? Paul’s longing to know Jesus—through suffering, death, and resurrection—mirrors this 40-day journey toward Easter. and exactly what we need as creative, Jesus-loving girls preparing our hearts. Let’s dig in, step by step, and see how this speaks to us today.

Knowing Christ Up Close

“I want to know Christ.” That’s our Lenten cry, isn’t it? This isn’t about facts—it’s about ginosko, a deep, intimate knowing. It’s sitting with Jesus in the wilderness, feeling His presence as we fast, pray, and let go of distractions. For us creative souls, knowing Christ means inviting Him into our everyday lives—our sketches, our songs, our quiet moments.

During Lent, I’ve been pausing more and listening more. Maybe you’re feeling it too—those sacred spaces where He whispers, “I’m here, daughter.” Philippians 3:10-11 calls us to lean in, especially now, as we reflect on His journey to the cross. It’s not just reading about Him; it’s walking with Him, hand in hand, through the desert of this season.

I love how He meets me when I’m journaling—pen in hand, heart open. Where do you sense Him drawing you closer this Lent? Maybe it’s in the stillness, or maybe it’s when you’re pouring your soul into something beautiful. He’s there, waiting.

Resurrection Power Unleashed

Then Paul drops this gem: “the power of his resurrection.” Oh, y’all, this is where Lent gets exciting! It’s not just about the cross—it’s about the empty tomb we’re headed toward. That power that rolled the stone away? It’s alive in us, even as we walk these somber days. The power of His resurrection breathes life into dead places—our dreams, our hearts, our creative sparks.

I’ve seen it this Lent—a project I’d shelved started whispering possibilities again after a prayer. A heavy day turned hopeful with a worship song. Philippians 3:10-11 reminds us that knowing Christ means tapping into this unstoppable force, even in a season of sacrifice. It’s like a seed buried in winter, ready to burst forth come spring.

Think about your own life: where do you need that resurrection power to break through? Maybe it’s a stalled passion or a weary spirit. Jesus is already at work, stirring life beneath the surface.

Embracing His Sufferings

“Participation in his sufferings” hits different during Lent, doesn’t it? This is the season we sit with the weight of the cross, joining Jesus in His sacrifice. It’s not easy—whether it’s fasting from sweets (Lord, help me!) or facing our own struggles—but it’s holy. The fellowship of His sufferings draws us near Him in a way nothing else can.

For me, Lent has meant wrestling with impatience, laying it down daily at His feet. Maybe for you, it’s a habit you’re breaking, a hurt you’re releasing, or a hope deferred. Philippians 3:10-11 says there’s beauty here—a chance to know Him in the hard places as we mirror His surrender.

It’s like the paintbrush of life dipping into darker hues, only to reveal a masterpiece later. I’ve found Him so close in those moments—when tears fall, when I whisper, “I can’t, but You can.” How’s He meeting you in your Lenten struggles? He’s right there, holding you.

Becoming Like Jesus

“Becoming like him in his death.” Lent is all about this—dying to ourselves so we can live for Him. It’s surrendering our plans, our pride, our need to control, just as Jesus did on the cross. For us creatives, it’s handing Him the brush and trusting His design, even when it’s messy.

This season, I’ve been letting go of perfectionism (a tough one for this girl!). Maybe you’re releasing something too—anger, fear, a distraction that’s dulled your shine. Philippians 3:10-11 invites us to become like Jesus, step by step, as we journey toward Easter. It’s not instant—it’s a slow, sacred shaping. I think of it like clay on a potter’s wheel, spinning, softening, forming into something new.

Where’s He molding you into His likeness? Maybe it’s in a kind word you choose over a sharp one or a brave yes when you’d rather hide. He’s working, friends.

Hope in the Resurrection

“Attaining to the resurrection from the dead.” Lent’s not the end—it’s the path to resurrection. Paul’s “somehow” is our Lenten hope—trusting that after the cross comes the dawn. Because Jesus rose, we will too, and that promise fuels us through these 40 days of reflection.

As creative Jesus girls, this hope sparks everything—our faith, our art, our courage. It’s why we keep praying, creating, pressing in—because Easter’s coming. Philippians 3:10-11 ties Lent to eternity, reminding us that every sacrifice leads to glory. I love imagining that first Easter morning—light breaking, stone rolling, life winning. It’s what keeps me going when Lent feels long. How’s this resurrection hope carrying you? Maybe it’s a quiet strength, a flicker of joy in the waiting. Hold it tight—it’s yours.

Living It Out Today

How do we live Philippians 3:10-11 this Lent? Here’s some inspiration for our creative hearts:

  • Create with Him: Journal, paint, or sing as a Lenten offering, inviting Jesus into the process.
  • Pray Through Pain: Bring your struggles to Him in these quiet days—He’s listening.
  • Celebrate Life: Look for resurrection power, even in small wins, and thank Him.
  • Reflect Him: Share His love as you prepare for Easter—be His light.

This isn’t a checklist—it’s a journey. Lent’s a canvas, and Philippians 3:10-11 is the palette—rich with knowing Christ, His power, His pain, and His promise. Let’s paint it boldly, together.
