Welcome to Day 1 of Gratitude Documented 2023! Let our journey of faith and thankfulness, where we reflect on the blessings in our lives and express gratitude for them begin. As we embark on this journey together, let us discover the power of gratitude in our lives.
Before we dive into day 1’s scripture, its meaning, and the details of my page. I want to break down what I will be sharing each day throughout Gratitude Documented 2023.
Each day I will share the following things:
- Scripture & theme for the day
- A brief description of my thoughts on the scripture.
- Reminders of why gratitude is important.
- A reminder to document your gratitude.
- And I will briefly explain how I created my page.
Every day in my journal I will always include a prayer and a list of the things I am thankful for. These things I will not tell in detail here, but just wanted to note that they will be a part of my daily pages.
Day 1 of Gratitude Documented 2023 – Today’s Scripture & theme
The scripture for today is Ephesians 5:19 which reads: speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord.
This verse encourages us to speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in our hearts to the Lord. It reminds us of the importance of expressing our love, joy, and gratitude to God and others.

The power of Gratitude
Gratitude is a powerful force that can transform our lives. When we cultivate an attitude of gratitude, we shift our focus from what is lacking to what we already have. It allows us to appreciate the simple pleasures, find beauty in the mundane, and recognize the goodness in others. Gratitude fills our hearts with joy and contentment, enabling us to thrive in all aspects of life.
Documenting Gratitude – Why It Matters
Keeping a gratitude journal or documenting our gratitude in any form is a wonderful practice that helps us cultivate an attitude of thankfulness. When we intentionally write down the things we are grateful for, we create a tangible record of our blessings. This act of documenting gratitude allows us to reflect on our journey, find strength in difficult times, and cherish the moments of joy.
Day 1 of Gratitude Documented 2023 – Cover Page
Last year I created a junk journal with two sections to document 2022 gratitude. Before starting Gratitude Documented 2023 I realized that there was an entire section in my journal from last year that I could use. Now I will have two years’ worth of gratitude in one journal. I will probably continue to use this style for future gratitude documenting.
Anyway, let me share a little about my cover for this year (image above). For my cover, I used some of the printable pieces that came with the kit and some decorative scrapbook paper I had.
I added some paper lace doilies that I dyed with coffee last year, some fall images I printed out, and finished the page with some strings of embroidery thread, and sticky flat back enamel circles. Also, I always include a prayer before I start a study or a gratitude journey. (little floral paper in image above)
Day 1 of Gratitude Documented 2023 – Creative Page
Again all my documented gratitude will be in a junk journal from last year. Each book page is different and was created with scrap paper, coffee-dyed paper, gift bags, envelopes, and more. So each day there will be a different background canvas for my creative pieces.
Most of the pieces I am using throughout this project will be from the printable kit on Illustrated Faith. I will also add a few pieces that I had on hand or printed out myself.
I wanted to make each day an interactive experience. By this, I mean that each day the person looking at it can lift pieces, pull pieces from little tucks, etc. For this page, I added some washi to different areas of the page to brighten it up. Then using a brad I attached a large floral piece to the outer edge.
Using one of the index card pieces from the journal kit (not part of the main kit), I added the scripture tag using a pink brad. The scripture tags are part of an add-on for the kit and can be found on Illustrated Faith print and pray area.
I then added other little pieces to make my card pretty. The front of my cards will always have the scripture and my thoughts. The backs will always be used for my prayer for the day.
In the image above you can see the little thankful for card. This is a list of all the things I am thankful for, for the day. This will always be a part of my daily gratitude documenting.
Day 1 of Gratitude Documented 2023 – Final Thoughts
Today, on Day 1 of Gratitude Documented 2023, we are reminded in Ephesians 5:19 to sing the songs of praises to God and one another. Not only sing songs we love, but we are told to also sing the songs of Psalms.
When we do these things we are uplifting one another. But more importantly, we are glorifying and exalting God. Then our lives will be filled with the Spirit and also filled with the Goodness of God.
